The sweepstakes model, in the terms that actually bind you
Sweepstakes casinos are not real-money casinos and should not be read as one. They run a promotional sweepstakes model built on two separate virtual currencies, and almost every dispute readers write to us about comes from confusing the two.

Buying a Gold Coin package is a purchase of virtual currency. Any Sweeps Coins attached to it are a free promotional bonus, which is why legitimate operators also publish a no-purchase-necessary route — usually a postal alternative method of entry set out in the official rules, sometimes daily logins, social entries or mail-in requests. If a site implies you must buy to be eligible for a prize, treat that as a warning sign and read the rules before going further.
The five clauses worth reading before you register
- Eligible states. Every operator lists states it serves and states it excludes. Availability varies by state, some states restrict or prohibit sweepstakes play, and operators also withdraw from states voluntarily to manage legal risk.
